Keeping a prisoner for life is pretty pricey too. Capital punishment is not about deterrance (in my mind). It's about an eye for an eye. If you make the (completely unwarranted) assumption that the only people getting executed are the guilty ones, then the hell with deterrance. It ain't about stopping the next guy, it's about justice.
